But I say to you...
Over the past few Sundays we've been dwelling in the section of the Sermon on the Mount where Christ visits common laws & understandings and reveals the authentic intention and meaning behind them. The theme has been Counter Cultural Living.
So what do you think about all this stuff? It's been heavy, but a great journey stretching our perspectives. Where have you been landing on these issues? What has stuck out to you the most?

Loving my enemies. Ouch. I think sometimes our worst enemies are those that are in our families. Loving my mom was one of the most challenging things I had to do as an adult, but after 11 years of not having a relationship with her...it was time. It turned out to be one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. Seems that the hardest things in life have the greatest results.

I have been challenged most by the idea of taking revenge/violence in different shapes and thinking that an eye for an eye doesn't really give us a pass to get even with those who have wronged us. I love the idea that an eye for an eye is a check and balance to make sure revenge does not consume us and to help us avoid entering the cycle of anger & revenge. It's so easy to get angry and let it consume you. But it's a dangerous cycle. So hard to get out of, too. I'm glad that Jesus shows us the higher road and invites us to walk with Him and in His way. He has helped me with forgiveness and letting go of the anger that consumed so much of me. Forgiveness is so big and so worth it.
Marie,
Sometimes family relationships are really hard. I applaud you for restoring your relationship with your mom. Restoration & forgiveness are never the easy routes, but are the most rewarding. It is amazing how God uses those things to work in us, and form us more into His likeness.
Great comment!
